The transistor used in this circuit should not have a voltage rating higher than V, due to the higher base current needed of higher voltage rated transistors, this might in some cases cause problems where the self-resonating circuit can no longer drive the transistor. All parts except the timer and mosfet are non-critical.


The high voltage is a plus lol. If the output is weak, the primary polarity may need reversing.

Measure the voltage at the collector of the 2N to ground. I think it could just be a too low duty cycle and secondary maybe some odd frequency where this transformer does not work very well, but first check the duty cycle.

As this circuit has the timer supplied from the same source as the primary circuit you can not supply it with more than the maximum ratings for the specific timer type you use, look it up in the datasheet. Does anyone know what could cause this?

The other thing I have noticed is that the circuit now very quickly kills the voltage coming from the 20v power supply, it will go from 20 to less than 10v very quickly. Not to be rude, but ask yourself if a 10K potentimeter set at 9K would equal a 9K potentiometer…. I redid the flyback test so I know that its working fine.
